Did you know?

Did you know?

You’re already gung-ho about Flow’s naturally occurring minerals, electrolytes and eco-friendly pack. But what about all of the other things you might not know about Flow?

School is officially in session. The next time somebody asks you about that “water in a box” you like so much, whip out one of these fascinating facts and dazzle your friends with your Flow-how.

1)  We’re alkaline (and feelin’ fine)

What’s the deal with pH levels, anyway? Here’s a quick science lesson (in case you fell asleep in chemistry class). The pH level measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is on a scale of 0 to 14. For example, something with a pH of 1 would be very acidic, and something with a pH of 13 would be very alkaline indeed.

Flow alkaline spring water (pH 8.1) has a higher pH level than regular drinking water, which typically has a neutral pH of 7. Alkalinity helps buffer acidity, and may even lead to better health and fitness.

2)  We protect our source.

Our source is from a family-owned artesian spring in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada, and is one of the few self-sustaining, self-replenishing, never-drained springs in North America. We make sure we’re in strict compliance with the Clean Water act to keep it that way.

3)  Our source is what gives Flow its minerals.

Flow comes from a limestone-encased aquifer that gives the water its unique mineral content. These minerals make it naturally alkaline and give Flow electrolytes and a soft, smooth taste.

4)  The name ‘Flow’ comes from Positive Psychology.

Also known as “the zone,” flow is a mental state that refers to when a person is fully immersed in an activity. During flow, people typically experience deep enjoyment, creativity, and a total involvement with life. This seemed like the perfect name to represent what we’re all about.

5)  We were inspired by Burning Man.

Bet you didn’t know that Our CEO, Nicholas Reichenbach, is a proud Burner. In fact, Flow was founded by Nick in 2015 after he made his annual pilgrimage to Burning Man in the Black Rock desert of Nevada, where festival-goers down gallons of water to survive the heat. After seeing the mountain of plastic bottles at the end of the week, he decided to come up with a better way.

6)  We’re a family business.

Team Flow is growing every year, but we’re still a small business with family values. Nicholas lives full-time in Toronto, with his wife, Tammy Eckenswiller, who serves as creative director for the brand.

7)  You can back our Tetra Pak.

No more plastic bottles. Our Tetra Pak packaging is non BPA and BPT free. And we use just enough material to keep the package stable, to ensure our packs are as eco-friendly as possible.

8)  Two trucks can transport 2 million packs of Flow.

Efficiency for the win. Unlike plastic bottles, our packs are transported as mega rolls and assembled at the plant because it’s hugely efficient. Rolls require minimal vehicles on the road which cuts pollution, keeps fuel low, and helps us emit the lowest CO2 footprint possible. Just TWO of our trucks can transport 2 million packs of Flow!

9)  We have one of the lowest carbon footprints in the industry.

We’re not just eco-friendly — we’re eco-obsessed. And we’re always looking for new and innovative ways to take care of the environment.

10)  We’re part of an elite group of B Corp businesses.

B Corps are a new type of company that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. Only 2,225 corporations worldwide have received B Corp certification to date — and we’re one of them.

11)  We care about our oceans and coastlines.

Plastic in the ocean is a big no no. Our goal is to eliminate plastic bottles from the supply chain, as part of the growing global movement of people using business as a force for good.

12)  We’re friends with the rainforest, too.

Simply replacing plastic with paperboard isn’t enough. We put sustainability first, which is why none of the resources used in our cartons come from old growth trees or rainforests.

13)  Even our cap is plant-based.

Even sweeter, our packs are mindfully sealed with a plant-based cap derived from non-GMO sugarcane.

14)  Flow also comes in organic flavours.

Psst… have you heard about our new organic flavors yet? Organic, vegan, kosher, no sugar, no juice, no calories, no preservatives and no GMOs, our alkaline water now comes infused with cucumber + mint and lemon + ginger.

15)  We spread positivity.

We spread positivity as a company by promoting and supporting acts of kindness. Last year, we found out from a partner that pipes in Winnipeg, Manitoba had frozen over, leaving many without water, so we sent 30,000 units of Flow to children in need. We also sent a container full of product to Syrian Refugees who had newly arrived in Canada, and more recently, to Puerto Rico. We want to spread positivity wherever we can. Hopefully, we can help improve people’s lives.
